An Interview with Justin Lewis - Olympic Coach

On Tuesday 31st of July, Justin Lewis came to visit the Juniors to talk about being an Olympic Coach. Justin coaches his sister, Tamsyn Lewis who runs in 800m races. He also coaches junior athletes. We asked Justin some questions about his very important job.

How did you become an Olympic coach?
Justin started as an athlete himself and then he did a course at Athletics Victoria (2-3 years of study).

Who do you train?
Tamsyn Lewis, he also coaches junior athletes and has trained paralympians.

How often do athletes need to train?
2-3 hours 6 days a week

How do you train athletes?
Strength Training - weights
Resistance Training - running up hill, steps
Running - sprinting - track
Plyometrics - type of exercise that helps athletes to use powerful movements to help them run faster

Why do you think the Olympic Games are important to the world?
The Olympic Games are important because it brings all countries together under one flag for 2 weeks of celebration, participation and doing your best.
